چکیده

The present study aimed to investigate postoperative swallowing disorders in patients diagnosed with CM I after decompression neurosurgery. We selected 54 neurosurgery procedure for from January 2017 December 2019. evaluated the speech-language assessment (CSLSA) 24 h post-surgical extubation. CSLSA observed aspects of posture, sensitivity, tone, and extraoral intraoral mobility FAO visualizing functions breathing, phonation, articulation, chewing, swallowing. correlated severity dysphagia presence associated malformations patients. In our study, 39 were female (mean age 41.3 ± 47.1 years). Thirty-seven had (p = 0.0243): 21 syringomyelia, 11 basilar invagination, 5 syringomyelia invagination. Dysphagia was 37 cases (68.5%; p 0.0016). Dysphonia 13 (24.1%; 0.4785) dysarthria 3 (5.6%; 0.0042). CSLSA: orofacial hypomobility (29 — 53.7%; 0.0204), hyposensitivity (26 48.1%; 0.3023), reduced GAG reflex (24 44.5%; 0.1041), ineffective cough (19 35.2%; 0.0022), saliva (18 33.3%; 0.0396), dyspnea (13 24.1%; 0.4785), hypotonia (11 20.4%; 0.0004), altered cervical auscultation (10 18.5%; 0.0003), (3 9.3%; significantly influenced appearance disorders, oropharyngeal dysphagia, complications (17 31.5%; < 0.001), clinical outcomes 0.0029) type I. Posterior fossa volume and response to suboccipital decompression in patients with Chiari I malformation.

Smaller posterior fossa (PF) volume has been suggested to be one of the mechanisms responsible for tonsillar herniation through the foramen magnum in patients with Chiari I malformation (CM I). Although previous radiological analyses of the cranial anatomy have suggested a smaller PF volume in patients with CM I, the relationship of the PF volume to decompressive surgery has not been reported. ...

Intraoperative ultrasonography as a guide to patient selection for duraplasty after suboccipital decompression in children with Chiari malformation Type I.

OBJECT Indications for duraplasty in treatment of Chiari malformation Type I (CM-I) remain unclear. In the present study, the authors evaluate their surgical experience to determine whether intraoperative ultrasonography is effective in the selection of patients with CM-I who can be adequately treated with craniectomy alone without duraplasty. METHODS The authors reviewed the records of 256 c...

Chiari I malformation and neurofibromatosis type 1.

Single case reports exist in the medical literature of patients with tonsillar ectopia, i.e., the Chiari I malformation and neurofibromatosis type 1. However, large series of patients with either of these entities have not been examined for the presence of both defects. We have retrospectively examined two large groups of pediatric patients: Group I, with the primary diagnosis of Chiari I malfo...
